Course Outline

With a strong focus on command, control and coordination of search and rescue missions, this course is designed to train students to undertake the duties and responsibilities of a Search and Rescue Coordinator. This course builds on the underpinning knowledge gained through the Introduction to Search and Rescue course that is a pre-requisite to attend this training.

  • The Search and Rescue System
  • Rescue Coordination Centre Organisation and Management
  • Interpersonal and Organisational Communications
  • Search and Rescue Sequences
  • Decision Making
  • Search Area Coverage
  • Search and Rescue Platforms
  • Maps and Charts
  • Calculating Current Leeway and Drift
  • Planning for a Rescue or MEDEVAC
  • Search Procedures and Search Area Determination
  • Search and Rescue worksheets
  • Risk Management
  • Conducting Briefings and Debriefings
  • Practical Application of Search and Rescue Procedures in a Simulated Environment

Blended Delivery

Pre-requisites: Introduction to Search & Rescue (online delivery)

Co-requisites: Nil

Course Delivery: This course is delivered through a combination of online (Introduction to Search and Rescue) and traditional classroom training (Minimum student numbers required).

SAR Coordination training is conducted in three separate streams of maritime, aviation and land search and rescue coordination. Please email us for a copy of individual program outlines.

Duration:       Online - 12 weeks

Classroom Program: One week (Monday to Friday) for each stream.

Location for classroom delivery: LifeFlight Training Academy, Aviation Australia Campus Brisbane International Airport
(or other locations as agreed with the client for group bookings)

Course Award: Certificate of Successful Completion - Search & Rescue Coordination

Classroom Delivery Only

Pre-requisites: Nil

Co-requisites: Nil
